ぶちこわし【打ち壊し】

1 〔破壊〕 destruction; demolition; 〔(家屋などの)取りこわし〕 pulling [tearing] down.

2 〔台なしにすること〕 spoiling; ruining.

●一語でも余計に加えたらせっかくの美しい文章がぶちこわしになる. Adding even one word to this passage would destroy its beauty.

・うるさい宣伝カーが通って, いいムードがぶちこわしになってしまった. The noisy loudspeaker truck passing by completely spoiled my good mood.

●ぶちこわしをやる spoil; make a mess of it [matters]; botch the whole business

・ぶちこわしを言う dampen conversation; put a damper on conversation; throw [toss] a wet blanket over [on] 《a scheme》; make a destructive criticism.

●せっかくの遠足も雨でぶちこわしだ. The rain ruined the picnic we were looking forward to.
